Most fuse boxes have several positions in the fuse box that will allow you to connect a wire to them using a spade connect. Normally the resistor wire runs from the ignition switch to the firewall connector, but they may be using the tach as the resistor. Depends on the tach, there could be another wire for the light. I got a good deal free on a used tach for the engine test stand I'm building. Good Luck Steve Posted on Sep 19, 2010 There are usually at least three connections to the starter solenoid - two are generally physically larger and designed to carry starter current.
You will find a wire connected togeather male-female plugs on eather end Those 2 wires must be connected to make it run when the Dash tach takes a Dump on you. Squeeze the metal tap on the connector down with a pair of pliers and snap the cover on the connector closed. It will stay on until the engine speed drops below the set point. I'm hoping it's a bad connection somewhere but i'm starting to have my doubts. Most tachometers are similar, one wire for the power going to the fuse box and the other going to the coil which was the - negative side for mine.
A phillips screw retains the cup so remove that screw located on the back. The wires are about 16-18 gauge usually, so get connectors of the appropriate size. Note: The shift point setting can be checked anytime the vehicle is started. Neutral should be at the indicator lights. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. New tachometers may be set to work on 4-, 6- or 8- cylinder engines by removing the back cap of the tachometer to reveal the cylinder setting switches inside.
Install the Billet Tach Mount assembly with the four stock allen head bolts and chrome caps removed in step 1 above. Adjust handlebars to desired height and torque bolts to factory specs. Wipe up spilled fuel immediately and dispose of rags in a suitable manner. Installation of the Autogage Tachometer was fairly simple with only minor wiring including a wire to the distributor, a good ground, a 12 volt switched power source and a wire to power the tach's light. Anyone know where I am going wrong? I can send you the diagramif you want. I'm guessing since the diagram has it and Ron verified it, it's probubly correct.
