Although the technology and modes of transportation are clearly outdated, the warmth of the writing and richness of the stories left my young reader spellbound. As you said there is a spot on the handle, but it is not on the food surface so I am not worried. Vilnoff is actually, like, an insane mastermind evil villain, with deathtraps and everything. Funny hoe today the direct opposite occurs as parents willingly push very violent video games to the same age group this book is for. The mystery is about a gang trying to steal Mr. Tan cloth with brown lettering and decoration, pictorial dust jacket. The young detectives investigate, only to discover that the signposts have vanished.

The copyright date is 1936. More likely the bad guys would make the witnesses disappear. They go there, get captured, but manage to escape while riding Topnotch to freedom. Yet, they don't seem to mind witnesses and merely tie up those who can finger them. The two mysteries that the Hardy Boys and their father are working on become entwined. I've read the first 80 Hardy Boys books in the original editions which show wear and tear and remain in my library but these new beauties have their own special display area.
